Welcome Krystle & Grace!
Thanks to a recent award from the City of Tacoma, we have been able to expand our Prevention Education program with the addition of two new Prevention Advocates! Krystle Haga and Grace Strensland joined Education and Resource Coordinator Ash Powers in May, taking this program from a one-person operation to a three-person powerhouse.
Grace and Krystle wasted no time jumping into their new roles. With Ash’s leadership, earlier this month the trio organized Rebuilding Hope’s first in-person Basic Sexual Assault Awareness Training (BSAAT) since 2019. This 30+ hour state-certified intensive course is geared toward professionals working with victims and survivors of sexual assault such as health care providers, attorneys, law enforcement, school personnel, daycare providers, counselors and advocates.
Grace, Krystle and Ash have also been active in the community, attending the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People Task Force community celebration (photo above) and providing information about our services at the community events like Washington’s Juneteenth Celebration, the Grit City Community Resource Fair and the Tacoma Pride Festival.
In addition to BSAAT, our Prevention team offers remote and in-person education activities to children, youth and adults to raise awareness of the impact of sexual harassment and sexual assault. These activities facilitate discussions that empower youth, adults and professionals to take part in the effort to make their schools and communities safer. Presentations for schools and youth groups are free, age-appropriate and designed with the goal of eliminating sexual violence in our communities.
